Healthcare & Employee Benefits - October newsletter
Employers can play a key role in tackling mental health and wellbeing
With the arrival of World Mental Health Day (October 10th 2021) employers have the opportunity to think better and smarter about how they can play an important role in helping with mental health and wellbeing for their employees. A report at the end of last year revealed that 41% of UK employees have experienced mental health symptoms caused, or worsened, by work in 2020*.
Whether staff face emotional, legal, financial or work-related issues, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP) are a valuable way for employers to provide that duty of care.
An EAP provides extensive support to your employees for personal problems that might adversely impact their work performance, health and wellbeing. It will typically include:
- 24-Hour access to confidential counselling & advice from qualified experts
- Face to face structured counselling if required
- Online and App based CBT, exercise and health checks
- HR tools with help towards mental health training to spot when colleagues maybe struggling
With so many Employee Benefits such as group life, income protection, critical illness and health insurance all providing EAP, businesses need to review their existing benefit offering to see what is included and is it being promoted and used.
