Stress is becoming an increasing factor in the workplace and Employee Benefits including an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) are designed to allow people to manage their health and well-being and reduce absence.
Stress can cause physical and emotional problems which adversely impacts health, energy, well-being, mental alertness, and personal and professional relationships.
The 2019/20 Labour Force Survey (LFS) revealed that across Great Britain:
- A total of 828,000 Workers suffered with work related stress, depression or anxiety
- 9 million working days lost due to work related stress, depression or anxiety
- Depression or anxiety accounted for 51% of all work-related ill health cases and 55% of all working days lost due to work-related ill health.
The options for employers to address stress in the workplace include:
Health Cash Plans – either includes EAP facilities or 24hr stress counselling within the cover or can be added to existing cover for around 60p per month per employee.
Private Medical Insurance – 24hr stress counselling often included within the cover making it easy for employees to get confidential help as soon as possible.
Group Protection cover (Group Life, Critical Illness or Income Protection) – nearly all provided with EAP which includes face to face counselling where necessary.
